Brigadier Havelock crosses into Avadh
July 25Brigadier Havelock, though in poor health, managed to cross the Ganges with about 1500 men and 13 guns and reached Avadh territory today.
His forces seem totally inadequate— he is short of everything. The shortage of cavalry was particularly galling to him.
Hopefully we can take advantage of the situation.

Who is incharge of Audh at this time? The queen or the Nana Sahib?
The nominal ruler of Avadh was Begum Hazrat Mahal, one of the wives of the deposed King Wajid Ali Shah. With her consent and approval her son,Birjis Qadr, had been crowned as the King of Avadh in July 1857, notwithstanding the fact that Wajid Ali Shah , was very much alive though in exile in Metaburuz , Calcutta.
Nana Sahib ruled over Kanpur and the surrounding territory for about two months when the British authority in that city had collapsed .
