Actual Order issued by Neill regarding retribution

Here is the actual order issued by Brig. Neill at Cawnpore for the ghastly retribution that Subedar discussed.

Read it only if you are not faint of heart.

The ignorance and lack of pride on the part of Indian’s of the events of 1857 is sickening.The war of independence was the biggest threat to Imperialism in the nineteenth century.This
ignorance is proof that India is not truly independant.

I’m sorry, but I’m not sure how anyone can object to that punnishment. It was assigned to those guilty of the bibighar massacar which is noted in this very blog (http://www.1857mutiny.com/1857/07/16/black-cloud-of-bibighar-events/).

How could any retribution be too great against the people who carried out such attocities?
