The road taken by Havelock to reach Residency
September 29Residency is secure but we are expecting the attack any day now.
Havelock has to take this road, he has no choice and we will be ready for him. It is just half a mile to the residency on this road and it will the most difficult half mile that he ever traveled.

Interesting to see, what we still call the Mutiny, from an Indian perspective. Very interesting site: format and presentation is first class. The comments do grate a bit, but the retelling of history is never neutral, all about point of view, so legitimate.
One question if it was a national uprising, why were Bombay, Madras, Bengal and the south in general- not to mention the north west- so passive?
Alan,
Briefly, the Madras and Bombay presidencies experienced some disquiet, but the mutiny was mainly confined to the Bengal presidency largely because of its composition being made of Oudh Brahmins, unlike the other presidencies which were of mixed caste and religion.
it’s really nice pictures collection
