Turn Of The Tide For The British
December 9Hope Grant’s forces defeated the nationalists today at Serai Ghat in an artillery duel. In the encounter Tatia lost fifteen guns with some fine bullocks. After all had bolted, a single soldier of Tatia’s army continued to load and fire a gun until at last, he too was killed.
This date (the date of defeat of the Gwalior Contingent), marked the turn of the tide for the British. Now, instead of being on the “defensive”, the mood in the British camp had become upbeat.
