Mangal Pandy has been hanged.

May 8, 1857

It is with great sorrow that we report that the Mangal Pandy, and the jemadar who refused to arrest him, have been hanged.

Pandey was to be executed on April 18. But he was hanged 10 days earlier to prevent the regiment from harboring ill will against superiors or to prevent further unrest.

Also, the 34th Native Infantry regiment has been disbanded.

Mangal Pandey has became the first freedom fighter and martyr of 1857.

We will never forget you Mangal Pandey!
